Don't miss an opportunity to restore this literally-bulletproof custom steel coastal cruiser to her former glory. The current owner is highly motivated to move this Coastal Cruiser on as his life has taken on a different path with no time to finish what he started when he purchased the vessel 5 years ago. She is ready for a new owner with a vision.
Side Trax is currently sitting on a hard stand at Yaringa Marina in Western Port Bay Victoria. Side Trax is a classic live aboard Custom built Coastal Cruiser ideally suited to cruising around Port Phillip Bay as well as The Lakes in Gippsland. Side Trax has an interesting story below which is a testament to her custom construction.
The sandhills of the semi-desert in far western Queensland is not a place where you would normally find inspiration for a big, comfortable, steel, long-range, flybridge cruising boat. But that is exactly where Cyril Jones first spotted his boat-building material.
The boat, SideTrax, was launched in 1985 and since then has had only four owners - Cyril, a couple who lived aboard in FNQ for a decade and the current owner, Melbourne-based ship's master Grenville Silvester, who bought her in 2003 and the current owner who purchased her in 2013. Side Trax has been on a hard stand since then undergoing pert time renovation.
The workmanship on this vessel is extraordinary and at first glance you would not believe she is steel. There are no welds to be seen every few feet because the plates used were so long and bent into place over the ribs.
The big block 3 + 3 Dorman 120hp six-cylinder diesel installed amidships originally drove the generator on a navy ship and is so beautifully smooth that you can rest a flute of champagne on top, start her up and take her up to maximum revs and not spill a drop.
The engine drives a big 39 inch, four-blade, bronze prop that pushes her along at seven knots while only using 10 litres per hour.
