Paramount hulls
The Paramount 26CC hull is one of several spawned from Don Aronows Cigarette, itself an extended version of the Dick Bertram Moppie. Aronow (the King of Thunderboat Row) created several legendary hull families (Formula, Donzi, Magnum, Cary, Cigarette) and was renowned for producing the fastest offshore boats in the world designs that won over 350 offshore races. He sold boats to the Shah of Iran, Malcolm Forbes, and George Bush; and they were understandably popular with cocaine runners (Aronow was gunned down in front of his business in 1987 and his life and death feature in the 2009 documentary Thunder Man: The Don Aronow Story, and a upcoming Travolta movie Speed Kills).

Other builders flopped and modified moulds from Aronows boats, with several dozen companies basing their early designs on these. These boats were crafted specifically for offshore racing, particularly between Florida and the Bahamas, and early models were characterised by 8 beam, 24 degree deadrise all the way back to the transom, forward planing strakes, and no ride plate. Paramount Powerboats were an extension of the offshore racing designs into the offshore recreational sportsfishing industry, in an area where keen fishers head to the Bahamas and back for a day. They kept the high sides for a dry ride, switched to a centre console design, and moved from inboards to outboards on a bracket (pod) so that the full internal deck space could be used for fishing. But other than that, keen boaters would appreciate the below-water hull lines remain true to the early go-fast offshore boats. In Australia, which sees few of these US designs, enthusiasts often assume the hull is an early Scarab or Haines 773, the latter still regarded as an exceptional offshore boat.

Flying Fish 2 is an identical hull to Flying Fish 1 (sequential hull numbers), and is rigged with an open foredeck for fishing. The sister ship Flying Fish 1 has an identical cruise speed and economy, and has been rigged with a soft cabin that erects over the foredeck for overnight and extended trips. The hull has performed beautifully on several runs between Brisbane and Fraser Island/Breaksea Spit, and an extended trip to the southern Great Barrier Reefs Capricorn Bunker group.
