Remember the good old drive-in? Well Melbourne boaters now have a float-in theatre.

Melbourne boaters, Docklands residents and visitors will be treated to a movie experience reminiscent of a 1960s drive-in when a giant floating screen and fresh popcorn bring the magic of the movies to Waterfront City Marina (WCM) this coming weekend.

A first for Melbourne, the floating cinema, which began screening on Friday, June 19, offers visiting vessels a unique opportunity to enjoy one of eight movies sessions across two weekends.

Movies
will be
shown on a
huge 10m x 6m screen, set
on the water in
Victoria Harbour, with a simulcast
soundtrack on 88.9FM.
Two additional screens will cater for visitors who would prefer to bring a chair and watch landside.

WCM said the
berthing fee for this event
is $35 and bookings are essential.

"If you
haven't stayed with us before, your fee will include the movie presentations, overnight berthing, access to marina lounge, showers and toilets, with free power and water to your vessel," WCM said.

Session dates, times and movies are: Friday (June 16) 6.30pm Finding Nemo, 9pm Casino Royale; Saturday (June 20) 6.30pm Hook, 9pm Master and Commander; Friday (June 26) 6.30pm Happy Feet, 9pm Jaws; Saturday (June 27) 6.30pm Open Season II, 9pm Titanic.

A WCM spokesperson said at this stage the Docklands float-in theatre concept will run for only the above two weekends.
