Team Windcraft, Moody Yacht’s exclusive importer for Australia and NZ, has ordered the first two of the brand-new Moody 54 Deck Saloon for the Australian market.

Moody’s parent company Hanse Yachts described Windcraft as "a force in the global market for Moody Yachts", following the sale of more than 20 of the marque in the last four years and 12 of those being Moody Deck Saloon models.

The new luxury blue-water cruisers will arrive in time for the Sydney International Boat Show next year. Launched at the Dusseldorf boat show in January, the 54DS slots in the middle of the three-boat range, between the 45DS and flagship 62DS.

"We’re very excited to have the first two 54DS’s here in Australia," says Windcraft’s managing director, Peter Hrones.

"It’s a great boat for the extremes in our climate. The cockpit area shelters you from the weather and the fantastic awning system gives you much needed UV protection from the intense Australian sun.

"The deck saloon is one of the most comfortable, stress-free ways to sail anywhere, hot or cold, in the world. The Moody Deck Saloons are also one of the only true deck saloon yachts on the market with a true 360-degree view, continuous inside-outside flow and a dedicated inside helm and navigation station," he said.

Continuing, Hrones regards the "excellent" hand-built finish and high-end equipment list on the 54DS as making this model perfect for long-distance cruising.

The two new 54DS’s will have different layouts. Hull no.1 is considered an ideal family entertainer with the galley-up option and four cabins. Windcraft says the galley-up version offers more sleeping space downstairs and allows parents to watch children while cooking and entertaining upstairs.

54DS hull no.2 has three cabins and a large galley down below for more cooking space, storage and room for lounging and entertaining in the deck saloon. The owner of hull no.2 has already made plans to compete in the 70th Sydney Hobart next year with family and friends aboard.

The builder says the extra 9ft on the 54DS over the 45DS is most noticeable in the extra-large saloon and cabins. The longer length also gives the option of adding a guest cabin as good as the owner’s, providing more comfort on long passages and extended liveaboarding. The new garage is said to offer out-of-the-way storage and easy tender access too.
