The 2015 Sydney Boat Show runs over two venues, features more than 220 boat show exhibitors, and features more than 145 boats on a purpose-built marina and another 700 boats in the halls. Welcome to the Sydney boat show, Australia’s most attended nautical event.

Trade-a-Boat presents our annual preview of this year’s Sydney Boat Show, highlighting the latest luxury power and sail boats from our revered yards and the best and newest boats from Europe and the USA. From the biggest to the smallest in trailer boats, the latest in marine electronics and engines from leading brands, there will be something for everyone with a modicum of salt in their veins – and agents ready to strike a deal.

Just like Sydney Boat Show 2014, SIBS 2015 will be spread over two venues: the in-water display at Cockle Bay Marina, Darling Harbour; and on the hard and in the halls at the Sydney Exhibition Centre @ Glebe Island.

5 Star Motor Cruisers

AMI Group

Zipwake Trim Control System

The AMI Group (stand 319, Hall 3) is offering SIBS patrons a range of new-release products it says will "add performance, entertainment or comfort to time spent on the water".

In a new distribution agreement, AMI Group’s TMQ Electronics presents GLOMEX weBBoat 4G Antenna systems. weBBoat allows users to connect mobile devices to the Internet up to 20nm from the coast. Cristec YPower Chargers is another new product added to the AMI stable. Silent running, they can be installed in living areas on boats allowing occupants an uninterrupted night’s sleep.

Another new release is the Zipwake Trim Control System (above), a fully automatic, modular and economical alternative to traditional trim tab technology, the system said to dynamically eliminate uncomfortable pitch and roll. Recently appointed Zipwake’s Australian distributor, AMI will have an interactive display available at the show.

Arvor Boats 855 Weekender

The 29-foot Arvor 855 Weekender splashes down at Darling Harbour in an Australian premiere for Arvor Boats Australia, heading a seven boat in-water display. The new offshore performance family cruiser with outboard or inboard power features two cabins, smart seating design conversions in the saloon and cockpit and berths for six people.

Alongside the new boat will be the diesel-model Arvor 700 Weekender, plus the new Arvor 690 and 730 Diesels, plus all three models from the outboard-powered Sportsfish range, the 755, 675 and 605.

Bayliner, through Avante Marine, is set to unveil several new exclusive Australian-only models at the Sydney International Boat Show including a new Bayliner 16 Element.

The Bayliner 175 (above) has been the mainstay of entry level boating in this country. This year Bayliner will introduce the new 175 Southern Cross a neat package that has been designed for Australia with a host of standard features including sports steering wheel, bimini top, stainless steel upgrade, tan accents and plush carpet. The 185 SX is also an Australian package with wide appeal with a solid black hull with orange accent, sports steering wheel and black windshield frame.

Haven’t heard of Axopar? Neither had we until Team Windcraft’s eyachts told us it would be displaying the unique Axopar 28 TT at this year’s Sydney Boat Show.

For the record, Axopar is a new premium sportsboat brand from Finland which was launched only last year. Bavaria Open 40 sailboat

Popular German keelboat brand Bavaria is out in force with six yachts in the water at Cockle Bay, the new Nautitech Open 40 sailing cat (above) heading the display in an Australian boat-show premiere.

The Nautitech Open 40 heralds a new direction from the yard which acquired France’s Nautitech Yachts last year in recognition of the rising popularity in cruising catamarans.

Bavaria Yachts Australia says it is sharing exhibition space with Ensign Ship Brokers and will have four yachts from the Cruiser range, the 37, 41 S, 46 and 51, as well as the Vision 42 in a SIBS debut.

Bar Crusher 490 Cuddy

Blakes Marine, of Mulgrave, NSW, stock some of the most prestigious brands in the market from the tough Vic-built Bar Crusher to the US-import Chaparral and Queensland’s Stacer and Baysport boats.

SIBS will see the NSW launch of one of 2015’s hottest boats in the Bar Crusher 490 aluminium fishing boats (shown). At the recent Melbourne Boat Show, well-optioned Bar Crusher 490 BMT packages could be had for around the mid-$30K mark – easily the bargain of the show.

You wouldn’t pick this flash conveyance as outboard powered, but that is certainly what propels the 31ft De Antonio D23 luxury dayboat from Barcelona-based De Antonio Yachts.

Presented in a Sydney boat show premiere by new Gold Coast dealership The Boutique Boat Company, the entry-level D23 features a teak deck and carbon hardtop, plus a modular seating plan that quickly converts to a large sundeck area.

The new flagship Dehler 46 is having its Australian launch at this year’s Sydney International Boat Show for distributor Team Windcraft.

The 47ft cruiser-racer’s sleek lines are the result of precise hydrodynamic research by design group Judel/Vrolijk which included analysis of human behaviour and motion studies. Team Windcraft said owners looking for a luxury performance cruiser will appreciate the ergonomic cockpit of Dehler 46, the choice of sail plan and the yacht’s "outstanding performance". Alongside the new Dehler will be the Dehler 38, last year’s European Yacht of the Year (Performance Cruiser category).

Darling Harbour-based Performance Cruising Yachts (PCY) is the newly appointed dealer for French sailing brand Dufour Yachts and presents the Grand Large 382 and 310 in Sydney boat show debuts.

The Grand Large 310 is said to be an ideal first yacht, featuring two large cabins and an airy saloon, while on deck a wide spacious cockpit is ideal for cruising.

Moving up, the Grand Large 382 (above) offers blue-water luxury for families or crewed sailing thanks to several layout options, along with a choice of galley styles and a large walk-in locker.

More Australian boat show debutantes from the Performance Cruising Yachts armada, this time two models from Slovenia’s Elan Yachts. Penned by Rob Humphreys, PCY said the Elan range promises performance with fully fitted interiors, "… so you can bring the regatta silverware home while also enjoying family cruising afterwards".

The new Elan S3 will be a highlight for aspiring twilight racers thanks to its lighter 31ft hull, removable furnishings and keel-stepped mast. This yacht is the first S model to be presented in Australia and is constructed with the latest in vacuum infusion construction claimed to be seven per cent lighter than the standard E version.

Also on display is the Elan Impression 40 luxury cruising yacht with large cockpit, opening transom and easy sailing via in-mast reefing and roller headsail furling.

Since launching their game-changing Elandra 53 to market last year, this Queensland boatbuilder has gone from strength to strength. Luke Durman and the team are already working on hull no.3, but in the meantime, no.2 (above) will be on display at SIBS to show locals what all the fuss is about. Her glossy silver hull hints at the unabashed luxury inside, but combined with a contemporary fitout that reflects the relaxed Aussie boating lifestyle.

Back Cove 41

This year heralds the Australian launch of the all-new Back Cove 41 (above), the flagship model in Back Cove’s lineup. Traditional attributes remain with shaftdrive, wide walk-arounds and bright open spaces in her two cabin, two bathroom layout.

A rear galley opens to a large cockpit, designed with entertaining in mind. Standard with twin thrusters and the efficient Cummins QSC 8.3L 600hp diesel, the 41 should be easy to operate and capable of 2000nm with her 1514lt fuel capacity. Going by the quality of previously tested Back Cove’s, we expect an outstanding fit and finish.

Rhea 27 Open

For those who prefer their boating performed under power, Ensign Ship Brokers will debut a 27 Open day cruiser (above) from French boatbuilder Rhea. This capable Med-styled day boat with classic flared bow and a tumblehome stern will be right at home on Sydney Harbour, but Ensign also brings Bavaria yachts to the party. The Nautitech Open 40 aims to redefine the use of space with a sailing cat, by combining the cockpit and the saloon into one seamless entertaining zone under a sprawling coachroof. This yacht has not been seen before in Australia.

A 37 Cruiser, 46 Cruiser and 51 Cruiser monohull, also from Bavaria, will be on display for Ensign, as will a 42 Vision and a Cruiser 41S racing model.

Rumour has it that Paul Junginger and the Evolution Boats team will be flying solo at this year’s show after recently parting ways with Blakes Marine. At the time of publication it was looking likely that the new Evolution 652 Hard Top, the popular 552 Cuddy and fishing and photography gun Al McGlashan’s own 6m Hard Top will be on display.

We sincerely hope this happens as a Sydney show without Evo would be a shame plus the new 652 looks the business with twin 200HO E-TEC power on the back.

In the past they might have even been told off for demonstrating their stereo power (!!) but the wattage on display at the stand is truly remarkable. This year marks the release of the new 650 and 750 series head units (above) and the all-new Signature Series marine speakers.

Based on technology previously available only in the offshore commercial market, Garmin Panoptix gives boaters the ability to see all around their boat in real-time, even while stationary.

A multi-beam transducer delivers incredible fishing-finding power in freshwater, estuary, inshore and offshore.

GRE Marine are stepping up this year, displaying almost the full range of both Malibu and Axis product as well as a range of TABS boats. This year has seen a few new releases from the Malibu and Axis teams, notably last month’s stunning technological tour-de-force Malibu Wakesetter 22 VLX and the affordable but still highly capable Axis T22.

These two boats were designed and are built in Australia with Australian tow regulations in mind. Joining them are the Malibu Response LXR and TXI, the Wakesetter VTX, LSV and MXZ.

Heading Team Windcraft’s in-water exhibit is the Australian premiere of the 45ft7in Hanse 455, the latest edition to the German marque’s eight-boat cruising range.

The new twin-wheel Hanse 455 is regarded by Windcraft as a "distinctive and powerful performer" featuring the "largest and best-equipped cockpit in its class".

With performance rigging and sleek deck design, a new feature is the hull-deck joint creating a solid and safe bulwark. Joining the new yacht will be the Hanse 345, 385, 415 and the 50ft Hanse 505.

Gold Coast’s Game & Leisure Boats (GLB) welcomes the arrival of the first of the new generation American-built Hatteras Express Series, the Hatteras 45 Express (shown, pic:Jim Raycroft). The new Hatteras 45 Express in fully-rigged tournament-style kit will wow the Sydney Boat Show crowd, purpose-built to tackle all the gamefish and conditions Australian waters can provide.

GLB said the Hatteras Express Series raises the bar in design, engineering and performance for the express boat market. "Owners will enjoy not only an abundance of amenities, but also a significant reduction of overall noise levels and vibration that you would typically experience on an inboard express boat of this size," said the dealership.

Horizon Motor Yachts Australia (HMYA) will have the Horizon E84 on show for the first time in Australia, alongside the Horizon V72 and Horizon PC52 catamaran, at Darling Harbour.

For traditional cruising sailors, Performance Cruising Yachts will exhibit the American-built Hunter 37. The agent says the yacht’s blue-water cruising attributes stem from a voluminous hull and protected cockpit, while below is a queen-sized aft berth, en suite bathroom and a similar-sized galley to the marque’s 40-foot model, all providing plenty of usable space in this 2014 design.

Following a highly successful Sanctuary Cove International Boat Show, luxury cruiser manufacturer Maritimo will have a big presence at SIBS.

"The reaction to our new models in recent months has been very encouraging and we are sure that the Sydney boat buying public will be equally as enthusiastic when they see what we have on offer," said sales and marketing manager Greg Haines.

The jewels of the Sydney boat show display will be the new M48 and Maritimo M65 cruising motor yachts, first released at the Sanctuary Cove Bot Show.

For sailcat enthusiasts Multihull Solutions presents the Helia 44 at its marina stand, where South Africa’s TAG Yachts managing director Tim van der Steene on hand to provide an overview of his shipyard’s range.

Multihull Solutions tells us it has experienced a surge in power catamaran sales over the last year and expects the MY37 (shown) and Cumberland 47 LR to enjoy strong interest at the Sydney boat show.
