Cameron, give TrailerBoat’s readers a snapshot of your own professional history, and how CWorthy Marine began…

I began my marine mechanical apprenticeship when I was 15, in 2002, completing my qualifications while working in a marine wrecking yard. After that I spent some time with marine engine specialist DA.MET working on big boats, but I realised that it wasn’t really my scene, so I moved back to the smaller boats at Avante Marine, the Gold Coast Bayliner dealer of the time. I did all my MerCruiser training there and then, after 12 months, I decided to go it alone.

And how has that worked out?

Well, I started off by working as a marine mechanic from out of the back of my van about two years ago, and now I’ve created this little empire. I first moved into a tiny shed in this complex a year ago, before moving into this much bigger facility.

Can you describe that facility?

The factory is just under 500m² and we’ve got a car park out the front, on Waterway Drive, where we display our floor stock of five boats. Inside the factory is our fully-equipped workshop, plus our office and a showroom with a range of marine accessories.

So what’s the main thrust of your business?

In addition to recently taking on the Bayliner and Trophy brands, and selling pre-loved boats, we look after everything to do with boats and vessel management, with a key focus on marine mechanical work. We do everything from brand new engine installs to rebuilds and re-powers, plus anything to do with servicing. In terms of engines, we just about do the lot: outboards, inboards, sterndrives, shaft-drives, petrol, diesel — you name it. Having said that, if somebody wants a gelcoat repair done, we’ll get a specialist in to do that too – but we’ll manage everything so the customer only gets the one bill, from us.

How many staff do you have?

I’ve got four mechanics on the floor, and then there’s my partner, Carly, and I, in the office.

What do you identify as CWorthy Marine’s main strength?

Simply delivering customer satisfaction. We’ve got to where we are today purely through word of mouth. All our jobs are completed on time, at competitive rates, and when the customer gets the bill there aren’t any surprises, because we communicate with them every step of the way. The customer will know what he’s up for before he even gets the bill.

What attracted you to the Bayliner brand, and how have you found moving into the dealership side of things?

I knew a lot about Bayliner from my time with Avante Marine. I’m really impressed with Bayliner’s general fit-up and quality, and also with where Bayliner is heading as a company — these days it’s all over its competition. Taking on the role of a Bayliner / Trophy dealer was a big step, but a really good step. It was a necessary part of taking CWorthy Marine to the next level as a growing business.

So what’s coming up for CWorthy Marine?

Well, we’ll be in the heart of the inaugural Gold Coast Marine Expo, to be held over November 4-6, and we’re also going to be holding some Bayliner days, where anyone who’s shown an interest in Bayliner’s products can sample them in action.

CWorthy Marine is located at Factory 16, 75 Waterway Drive, Coomera, Qld, 4209. Call (07) 5580 0905 or visit for more information.
