It’s a common denominator of all successful businesses; a clear understanding of who the customer is and more importantly, how to meet to that customer’s expectations in full. Grant Torrens International Marine (GTIM), located in the prestigious Sovereign Islands on Queensland’s Gold Coast, meets this criteria as a successful business.

The brokerage is also the largest luxury motoryacht dealership in the Southern Hemisphere. That is quite a claim but it is fair, and can be put down to years of hard work and an unfailing belief that above all else, the consistent delivery of first-class service is the point of difference that keeps customers loyal and wins new ones, particularly when times could be described as less buoyant.

Grant Torrens, the enigmatic man who drives the brand and sets the bar high not only for his team but for himself, has a lifetime boating experience to draw on. In the 1980s, he was a daredevil speed-skiing phenomenon racing away with the world waterskiing speed record of 156mph in the USA — a mark that still stands unbeaten today.
Grant has held nearly every major waterski speed and endurance record, including multiple World Barefoot Water Ski Speed records set here in Australia and in the US. He is also the first barefoot waterskier to break the frightening 100mph mark, and the world's longest ocean endurance ski record — from Brisbane to Sydney twice.

The heart of the business is the luxury boat brokerage. Having vessels on your books up to and often greater than 200 feet in length is a challenge few operations could succeed in. Part of the secret is to only represent the very best. The GTIM team know full well how important it is not waste the time of those can afford such prestigious assets with offerings that are not up to the standard expected.

The brokerage represents both pre-owned luxury craft and a selection of prominent new-vessel stables.

At any one time GTIM claim to have around 2000 listings for pre-owned boats in its extensive global network, so any prospective buyer can be assured the team can find the perfect vessel for them. A short interview with an experienced GTIM team member, in order to develop a clear profile of the parameters a vessel must meet to suit the needs of the prospective buyer, gives them a clear understanding of your wish list and is the ideal way to get the process underway. The yacht broker engaged will then be in the best position possible to select a short list of premium vessels that could literally be lying anywhere on the globe.

And the service doesn’t stop there. If the perfect vessel is located in some far flung port and a deal to suit can be struck, the new owner can rest easy in the knowledge that the often complex logistical task of delivering said vessel to its new home is in the best possible hands. All the new owner has to do is choose a boat and sign the check.

Supporting its successful pre-owned business GTIM also has a broad range of personally selected new-boat brands. There is serious class among these marques including the stunning and contemporary Lazzara Yachts label, the more traditional Christensen models, considered by many as the finest stable in the American North West, and no less than the world-renowned Bertram brand.

Recognising the globetrotting nature of many of its customers GTIM has invested in a wide-reaching network of charter operations. All of Australia’s top destinations: the Whitsunday’s, Port Douglas, Sydney and the Gold Coast, are represented as well as top international destinations such as Tahiti, New Zealand, South East Asia and the Straits of Malacca, and the Western Mediterranean.

All of the vessels in this worldwide fleet are at the top of their sector. It is also worth noting the selection is surprisingly diverse with superyachts like the 150-foot Tacoma Yachts built MY Zaza, sailing vessels like the 103-foot ketch Pacific Eagle and a hot little number called I Do a 33ft Pegiva that will race you around Sydney Harbour in the style of a bygone era.

To be honest, we have only scratched the surface of this unrivalled boating lifestyle business. In real terms there are few requests an owner or a prospective owner of a luxury-class vessel could make than Grant Torrens International Marine could not deliver on. If you vessel needs detailing or servicing it can be arranged, perhaps it needs to come out of the water, GTIM can sort that out for you as well. It is simply a case of picking up the phone and asking the question.

At time when many marine businesses are struggling Grant Torrens International Marine is growing. The sublimely located GTIM marina is already a very large on-water brokerage display, but they need more space, and thus expansion plans have started.

The new marina facility is being installed by Gold Coast company Superior Jetties. It will feature eight new berths allowing for superyachts from 120ft to 170ft to tie-up to the latest in big-boat facilities. This increase in superyacht berths confirms Grant Torrens International Marine as the biggest brokerage house in the Southern Hemisphere. By the time this story hits the shelf Grant and his team will have the facility prepared for the new motoryacht show commencing tomorrow on May 24.

Good luck Team Grant Torrens International Marine!

Grant Torrens International Marine motoryacht brokerage will be celebrating its 12th annual Brokerage and Lifestyle Show, which will proudly display the ultimate in luxury motoryachts, exotic and classic vehicles, plus helicopters.

Beginning tomorrow (May 24), the show runs for more than a week at Sovereign Islands on the Gold Coast. GTIM will showcase more than $65 million-worth of luxury superyachts, motoryachts, game and sports boats. The latest Aston Martin luxury vehicles will be centre stage alongside BMW and other exotic, racing and classic cars with the Chopperline helicopter also on display.

Boating enthusiasts from all over Australia and overseas will have the chance to experience the Brokerage and Lifestyle Show.

During the multimillion-dollar festival the who’s who of Australian boating and business society will celebrate at Sovereign Islands.

With superyachts taking pride of place at the new GTIM Superyacht Marina, the weeklong show will be the introduction to the eight new berths, an extension of the existing marina, currently being built to allow superyachts from 120ft to 170ft to tie-up to the latest in superyacht facilities. The new superyacht facilities are the unique partnership between Grant Torrens and Superior Jetties, creating what will be Australia’s first exclusive Super Yacht Brokerage Marina.

The increase in superyacht berths confirms GTIM as the largest motoryacht brokerage system in the Southern Hemisphere.
