For Sale: Used Horizon EP69 'Mian'

Among the growing range of much-sought vessels from Horizon Yachts, there exists one series of boats that never fails to stir the blood of seasoned mariners.

As the pictures hereabouts make starkly clear, the EP series of bluewater passagemakers is designed to take adventurous owners as far as their imaginations might provide – and then around the next headland after that, too.

Recently arrived on the market in Australia is this stunning and bold EP69. That prefix stands for Economical Pilothouse and while this 21m beauty might be the smallest in the range, she is a yacht amply crafted to take on adventures of any size, be it harbourside cocktails or extended Pacific voyaging.

Horizon’s EP series of yachts are unashamedly aimed at those owners seeking an expedition-style vessel and this can be seen in the EP69’s tall, muscular profile and broad 6.1m beam.

Twin helm stations further speak to this goal – enjoy clear views of coral-lined reef passes from the flybridge, or duck below decks to the cosy pilothouse when the weather moves in.
From either space, skippers can expect ocean-going range and low fuel consumption at displacement speeds, but with a level of onboard luxury more commonly experienced on superyachts.

Nowhere is this better shown than on the lower accommodation deck, where clever use of that 6m beam provides for three ensuite cabins, plus crew quarters that can be accessed privately through the transom door.

The centrepiece master cabin contains a king-size bed within its full-beam span, plus a large vanity to complement the separate head and shower compartments.

The forward VIP itself contains an island queen bed and the third guest stateroom features large bunks, all with private ensuites.

One level up from the accommodation space is well-appointed lounge and galley, the latter featuring a wealth of Miele appliances including a built-in coffee machine.

This area, just aft of the lower helm station, features elegant dark benchtops that contrast smartly with the white bar stools that swing into position alongside the galley service cutaway.

Moving past plush white lounges and through the stainless-framed sliding doors, guests find themselves on the aft deck where a glossy dining table will make every meal a special occasion.

However, the toughest choice might be whether to spend time here or on the luxurious skydeck. Upstairs, the EP69 offers a wide expanse to play under a solid fibreglass hardtop for serious sun protection while exploring oceans.

Here is another dining table and lounge, this time set opposite a full-service bar and just forward of the tender storage cradle.

Guests are within earshot of the upstairs helm, so skippers can enjoy socialising when underway.

Whether upstairs or down, the captain enjoys a newly installed Raymarine Axiom suite, set alongside a central systems monitor and the upstairs nav display glides away below the helm station when not in use.

As befits any explorer-style motoryacht, the EP69 is all elegant functionality belowdecks.
Using Horizon’s patented SCRIMP resin-infusion method, this yacht’s hull is a single piece of solid glass with foam core superstructure for added durability.

Bluewater design cues continue to the deck hardware, with heavy-duty bollard-style cleats dotted along the deck and even anchor-chafe plates at the bow to support the Maxwell windlass and 80kg anchor.

Twin MAN 560hp diesels will propel this Horizon at a steady pace around the globe, and deliver miserly fuel costs that mean your ambition is the only limit.

At a respectable 10kt cruise, the MAN engines each sip a mere four litres per nautical mile for a range of around 1600nm from the 9000L tank (including a hefty safety reserve). The current owner has put this to the test with visits to New Caledonia, Fiji, Vanuatu, New Zealand and more.

The hull bulb below the waterline means even the fiercest conditions offshore will do little to slow your steady progress and the overall feeling on one of these yachts is of comfortable security.

Having recently enjoyed a $350,000 refit including the substainal Raymarine Axiom upgrades, this 21m explorer boasts volume and fitout that seem to surpass its dimensions.

For the discerning buyer seeking a singular vessel to take on the world’s oceans with family and friends, this is a very worthy contender.
