Cruise boat or fish hunter, this clean Caribbean 28 is a proven design that can do both.

Second Hand Carribean 28 for Sale

This is one of the last C28s that was built by the experienced International Marine in Melbourne. This sports fisher is very well presented, according to broker Finn Crutch at Gameboats, a Caribbean  specialist. "She’s in A1 condition, having never been game-fished," said Crutch.

This 2005 model benefits from a more spacious layout than hundreds of earlier 28s; it devotes the entire saloon to relaxation, with all navigation done on the flybridge. It’s an ideal step up for day boaters who want a more seaworthy hull than their trailerboats. These proven hulls have been offshore and done thousands of miles with both fisherman and pleasure boaters. But this particular example has had a relatively easy life.

The deck layout is ideal for both fishers and day boaters thanks to a large swim platform/marlin board. Thigh-high bulwarks surround the spacious aft cockpit, which can be partially shaded by a canvas Bimini. Here there's access to the twin shaft-drive Yanmar 190HP engines with large scuppers to clear any deluges, should you be caught backing-up on a big fish. Rod holders are in the gunwales (and the flybridge) and outriggers could easily bet fitted as well. Anchoring is via a vertical windlass/capstan and small GRP bowsprit that gives the rode good clearance when deployed. Plenty of handrails all round, including cockpit and side decks, means this C28 is a safe boat at sea.

Climb the sturdy ladder to the flybridge and you’ll find a double seat and a bimini with clears to protect the area. As with all good gameboats, single lever throttles are fitted. Engine instrumentation features easily readable analogue displays and fishing finding gear is by Furuno with Lowrance multifunction device for charting.

For long weekends idling off the continental shelf, the saloon is fully serviced with bunks, galley and bathroom. Unlike the older models that had a lower console, this C28 has saloon benches and a V-berth for accommodation. To port is a small dinette with table for four and a lounge bench opposite. The dinette is convertible to a bunk or as a casual day bed. The vertical bulkheads and side windows maximise space while giving sun protection.

Behind the lounge - ideally placed between it and the aft cockpit - is the galley. It houses an electric hob with sensibly high fiddles and a microwave beneath (run from the main engines via a sinewave 12/240 inverter). Also included is a deep sink and running water (168L tank). For perishables there's a small front-opening fridge and several cupboards for other victuals.

Looking at the hull and systems, dealer Finn Crutch says it would be hard to find a cleaner example. "The twin Yanmar shaftdrive diesels have been meticulously maintained by both original owners." Engine access from the aft cockpit shows all services points accessible on the four-cylinder diesels and a very clean monolithic hull layup. All-in-all this Caribbean C28 is an excellent sports boat for the coming summer and at a price that won't frighten your accountant.
