The first of the Australian Power Boat Association's Victorian branch race meeting kicks off on September 6, 2015.

Club spokesman Stuart Jackson has urged members to fire up their speedboats to boost racing numbers for the upcoming season.

"We have many boats here in Victoria, be it outboard, hydro and inboard that are just sitting around, but which need to hit the water to make up some much-needed numbers," he said.

"Most of it comes down to a little encouragement from friends to help make it happen."

Power boat racing encompasses a large range of vessels, including Formula Future (juniors), 25hp, 1800cc Super Sports, 2000cc Super Sports, Sports Mono, Grand prix Hydroplane, Unlimited Outboard and many more in between.

The Australian Power Boat also makes available two junior boats free of charge to encourage young racers to safely enter the sport under the guidance of experienced powerboat skippers.

This allows junior racers to enjoy the thrill of racing without having to own a boat.

Potential competitors will need to include technical inspections, medicals, and intention-to-race forms among their preparations, so the clock is ticking before this first race event takes off in September.

First race meet: when and where?

Racing will be held Sunday September 6, at Lake Eppalock, Speedboat Rd, Derrinal, Victoria.
