Taking over the helm of any magazine, especially one with a reputation for excellence like TrailerBoat, can be a daunting affair, but it’s a challenge I relish.

Over the next few issues, readers will notice many subtle changes in TrailerBoat such as more "how to" and destination articles and fishing will be given greater emphasis. We’ll be publishing more full-blown boat tests and mini tests, along with all the regular columns and more chances to win that boat of your dreams.

TrailerBoat’s going from a second-hand trailerboat magazine to a full-on boating bible that includes hundreds of boats for sale. If you want to know anything about trailerboats and boating in general, this is the place to be.

The team are also putting more emphasis on the website and we intend to make it a place that you’ll visit more regularly, a website where you can get all your trailerboat and fishing information, so stay tuned!

In the mean time, spend five minutes viewing the new releases from the Melbourne Boat Show video we now have posted on

The changes for the magazine start with the next edition, so here’s a few teasers. In the next TrailerBoat we put three new Rolco ski and wakeboat offerings through their paces and find out why the new Polycraft boats are destined to stand the test of time. We also give readers the rundown on the Webster 4.9 Twinfisher, the boat that’s up for grabs in TrailerBoat’s great Win a Webster’s competition.

If you’re into fishing, check out my exploits during a recent trip to Townsville, where 10 to 15kg nannygai, coral trout, sweetlip and some unstoppable cobia were the order of the day.

In that story, I also mention the importance of being able to read and use your sounder and GPS correctly to find fish, so, just to help you out, Rick Huckstepp begins a five-part series about getting the most for your electronic equipment.

Looking for a new sounder, fishing rod, or any other boating/fishing accessory? Then, Trailerboat’s new section The Chandlery is your best starting point. Have a read and maybe grab yourself a bargain.

The new TrailerBoat magazine is out now… enjoy the read.
